December 10, Day 10

This tree skirt is 10 years old this month. 10 years ago, newly married, looking for a cute tree skirt, I ran across one I really loved in Pottery Barn. Not being able to spend $70+ on a tree skirt, I decided to make one. Didn't own a sewing machine so I drew, cut out and applied the felt trees, rick rack, ribbon, buttons and tree skirt by hand. I just happened to tell my grandmother what I was doing one day and she bought me my first machine. A Pfaff, basic machine.

My mother and grandmother have sewn since they were children. I was NEVER interested. I think it took getting married, seeing things I wanted but couldn't buy at a retail store to realize that I should just make things myself. Apparently I picked up some skills from my mother without knowing it because it just seems to "click" sometimes.

Anyway, I love this tree skirt. I love colorful things and it isn't lacking in that department. I'm proud to be able to put it around the "children's" tree because it's quite small.
